Gathering information about you:
All new patients are asked to fill out initial paperwork including information about their:

  • current condition

  • past health history

  • past trauma history

  • any other secondary symptoms or conditions they may have

  • insurance information

The office manager will verify any insurance benefits, so you are informed of all financial arrangements before you are seen by the doctor.

During your initial consultation, the doctor will review your health information with you, and also educate you about how chiropractic works, and how they may be able to help you.

Examining your spine:
Two computer scans will be performed on your spine, a thermal scan and an EMG scan.  These scans are completely painless.  They will help your doctor determine if you are a good candidate for chiropractic, and where specifically your problem is coming from.

Also, x-rays will be performed.  X-rays are essential to properly visualize your spine, allowing the doctor to correct your problem based on what they see.  Things your chiropractor will be looking at on your x-rays include 1) spinal alignment, 2) pelvis and tailbone alignment, 3) presence of degeneration in the spinal joints or pelvis, 4) presence of bone spurring in the spine or pelvis, 5) presence of spondylolisthesis.

Teaching you about your problem:
On your first appointment, your problem will be thoroughly explained to you, using your computer scan printouts, spinal charts, and spinal models.  Your x-rays will be reviewed with you on your second appointment.  You will also be invited to the "new patient orientation", a bi-monthly new patient orientation to further explain your problem, and what it will take to manage it properly.

Treating your spine:
Most new patients will need to start with the intersegmental traction table.  This will stretch your muscles and traction your spine before your adjustment.  Usually heat or ice will be included as well.  This will make the adjustment more comfortable.

Your spine will then be adjusted (re-aligned), usually by hand, using the following techniques - Gonstead, Diversified or Drop table.  Some patients require instrument adjusting, using the Arthrostim lower force instrument.  All adjustments are performed to patient tolerance or preference of style.

Lastly you will be re-scheduled for a follow-up appointment, when your x-rays will be reviewed with you and an appropriate treatment program will be recommended.  Also, you will be given a new patient folder to take home with you, including more education about what to expect after your first adjustment, and answers to typical new patient questions.
